A SEXY ACCENT FOR ANY OCCASION
Henna is a paste made out of crushed leaves and twigs of henna plant. It is used since ancient time to color skin, hair, fingernails, leather, and wool. When this paste is applied in skin (just like writing from a marker) and left for few hours, it leaves orange to dark maroon stain in the skin which fades away in approximately 2 weeks. Henna is a tribute to many cultures, while also being an amazing way to accessorize without the long term commitment of a permanent tattoo. It is great for the summer and safe for water and the warm months, while the beautiful burgundy color also accessorizes the warm color schemes in the cold months and looks amazing peaking out of a chunky sweater or next fur! Whether a special occasion or jazzing up your every day attire, henna is the way to go!
001. How long does it take? How much does it cost?
The answer to this questions depends on the intricacy, location and size of the design being applied. A hand/wrist/finger design averages about 15 minutes and costs around $65. A design can be catered around a budget or time constraint (with the minimum being $50). After henna is applied, the paste usually fully dries in about 15-20 minutes. If you have a photo reference of a design you like, and would like a price, please submit an inquiry.
002. How is henna applied?
Henna is put into a cone and a small tip cut off of the end to provide precision of linework for a clean design. It is the consistency of toothpaste and is drawn on similarly to a marker.
003. What care do i need to provide after getting a henna?
Giving the henna ample time to fully dry is the most important after care. Moving your body during the drying process may smear the design, and therefore the stain. After the henna dries, we recommend keeping the dried paste on for as long as possible and letting it fall off on its own during your regular daily activities. You can enhance the darkness of the henna by spraying a mixture of lemon juice and water over it after it dries to moisten and reactivate the paste again. If it has not fallen completely off before you go to bed, shake and rub it off over a trashcan before you go to sleep.
004. My henna doesn't look that dark, why?
After the paste falls off, it gets darker as it is oxidized. Your henna will reach its full potential of darkness over the next 12-24 hours. For longevity of henna color, we suggest less washing of the body part where henna is applied and less use of soap.
005. Is henna safe?
We use completely natural henna which is completely safe for all type of skins. We have applied henna designs on thousands of people of all ages and have received no complaints.
006. Can/Should i get black henna?
Henna is never black. When someone says they do henna which will produce black color, just turn around and run away. It is most likely they are using some chemical additive which may be harmful to your skin. Natural henna produces orange to dark maroon stain. The darkness depends on your skin, the body part where henna is applied, quality of henna and care you provide. Most likely black henna is produced by adding chemicals (like PPD) to dye hair or other objects. It is never safe for skin. Please be wary of places offering black henna.
007. What is white henna?
White henna, on the other hand, is simply a paste that dries on the skin, it lasts for about 2 days and DOES NOT stain your skin the same as regular henna. It is recommended to get the white henna design the same day, or day before the event you want to wear it for.
008. Is henna only recommended for the hand and foot?
Traditionally mehndi is applied in hand and feet of women (and men in some communities) for special occasions like wedding. Now-a-days with modern trend it is applied anywhere in the body depending on your test and need. Go to our interactive gallery to see varieties of henna designs applied in all parts of the body, but be advised that the design is usually darker and lasts longer on the hands and feet where the body is generally warmer, with more blood flow.
